FAIRMONT GRAND DEL MAR

So excited to share today’s post with you!  Our summer got off to a great start by celebrating my dad’s birthday with a much needed staycation!  We stayed at the stunning Fairmont Grand Del Mar.  You guys… this hotel is breathtaking. The property is absolutely gorgeous. I wanted to share our weekend there and all of the activities my family and I did. Hopefully, this will give you some travel inspiration. If you are heading to San Diego I highly suggest you check out the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. You will be so happy you did!

Arrival

As soon as we checked in Checked in we felt so welcomed. They greeted us very warmly and the first thing they offered were for the kids to go pick out a toy from the Fairmont treasure chest. It was a huge chest that had a ton of toys and little trinkets which made our check in process a lot smoother. They offered us water bottles and also a warm rolled towel to freshen up after travel.

The Palazzo Suite

This room was sooooo beautiful. We ended up getting a suite because we wanted the whole family to stay in one room and it ended up better than paying for four separate rooms. I am so glad we did because it was worth it! It was basically 3 rooms that all joined together. The main doors opened up into a living room, dining room, kitchen area and it also had a full size bath.   The left wing had a long hallway and it’s own entrance. Then it had two queen bed‘s and amazing bathroom with a tub, shower and dual sinks. Plus, a beautiful balcony overlooking the grounds. The right wing was a master suite. It offered a King size bed, a sectional sofa, and beautiful balcony. The master bathroom had marble finishes, a deep European-style soaking tub with a TV! The rooms were really family-friendly and include a fireplace, dining table for eight with adjacent kitchenette and two balconies. The sofa also converts into an additional sleeping space. There were really beautiful views of the resort grounds and golf course.   We couldn’t have chosen a more beautiful place to stay.

The suite was so amazing we honestly did not want to leave and were so sad the day we had to check out. They welcomed us with cookies and macaroons with the kids names drawn out on the plates. With chocolate syrup. Such thoughtful personal touches. It really just added to an already wonderful experience.

I definitely love the robe life too and was so impressed with the robes. So soft and comfortable and they also had cushy comfy slippers… I actually have them now at home and love wearing them. It’s nice to reminisce and pretend that my home is the Fairmont Grand… LOL

Daytime Festivities

This resort has so many fun options of things to do during the day. They have Pools and Pro Tennis Courts and a really beautiful Golf Course which made the hubs happy! There are nearby hiking trails and also the Ocean is the hotels Back yard if you wanted to go surfing or for a morning jog on the beach. If you feel like leaving the resort you’ll find San Diego’s top attractions, art galleries and museums, lively shopping districts and miles of coastal shores, all minutes away. Most impressively they have an equestrian center where you can book several kinds of horse back riding adventures. This is a huge hit with the kiddos!

 Poolside Lounging

The pools at this hotel are amazing! They have four heated infinity pools, underwater speakers that play beautiful music you can hear when your head is underwater. It’s such a fun surprise. They had private cabanas and a really great outdoor Pool Bar that has TV’s and cocktails. While the main pool is amazing the Relaxation Pool is a quiet, adults-only area  located adjacent to The Spa and ideal for swimming or lounging after a soothing spa treatment. They also have a children’s pool with a wading area, white sand seating areas and really pretty fire pits. There are lush manicured gardens and flowers and trees surrounding the property. You feel like you are in a tropical paradise.  Such a wonderful way to spend the day.

My favorite thing to order poolside for lunch was the burgers and also the Prosecco which is always delicious.

Spa Time

The Spa at Fairmont Grand Del Mar. San Diego’s premier resort spa is actually one of only 60 Forbes Five-Star spas in the world. This spa had so many fun treatments and massages ( menu of treatments) and they even have their own custom organic product line. The Spa also offers an array of beauty services, from manicures and pedicures to special occasion hair-styling and makeup. The Spa center also has a fitness center that offers yoga and other classes, wet and dry saunas, indoor whirlpools and an adult only relaxation pool.  When it comes to spas this one is the top of the line. It would be perfect for any special celebration or even a bachelorette/bridal shower weekend getaway.  I am planning on doing another blog specifically to show you the spa so stay tuned!

Kids Club

This is such a great option for parents who want a nice family getaway but also want to steal a few hours alone together one on one.  The explorers club is the perfect place to drop off the kiddos and know they will have so much fun!  They offer gaming systems like Nintendo Wii, Kinect for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, traditional games like foosball, ping pong, air hockey and board games, movies, arts & crafts, a variety of exciting outdoor activities. So basically….there is a lot of really fun things available to keep all ages busy and happy.

Dining Experience

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar offers different restaurants and cafe options from poolside to formal. My family went to the Amaya for dinner to celebrate my dads birthday. It was so pretty. It has Mediterranean-inspired architecture that overlooks the golf course… it almost makes you forget you are in California!  The Amaya offered american cuisine with Italian influences for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner on the shaded terrace or in a formal dining area indoors.

For dinner we got the Meatball Appetizers which was a mixture of veal, pork, tomato sauce and a ricotta salata, the Amaya Salad which had citrus, radish , almonds and cider dressing and the main dish was the Verde Pizza which was vegetarian that had broccolini, baby arugula and pesto! Then of course wine!! I chose the Pinot noir and it was so delicious and complimented the food perfectly. We also loved the Clubhouse Grill for an easy lunch on our pool day and the Cent’ Anni Cafe when we needed our espresso fix!!

Happy Birthday again Dad! I hope you had the best, most memorable Birthday!

If you are looking for a place to vacation this summer I can’t recommend the Fairmont Grand Del Mar resort enough. It was the BEST time and my family and I cant wait to go back!

xx,
