With so many new faces around here I thought it would be fun do a little Q&A so you can get to know me a little better. Thank you for sending in your questions. In case you missed my Ig stories where I answered questions those are all on this blog as well as some additional ones. So grateful for you being here & thank you for reading!
Q: How do you pronounce your name?
Q: How would you describe yourself in three words?
A: Creative, Kind, Silly
Q: What are your pet peeves?
A: Getting my sleeves wet. People talking while chomping on food in their mouth. ewwww.
Q: Is blogging your dream job?
A: Yes! I’m so so very grateful to be able to share my love of styling with all of you! Thank you for being here and following along!
Q: When did you decide to do all this?
A: When i first started in 2014, I didn’t even know what a fashion blogger was. One day I decided to start an Instagram page and share what I was wearing & “how to style” as a creative outlet….but that came with some hardship…READ MY STORY HERE.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a blogger/Influencer?
A: Connecting with you all on a daily basis, helping others with styling and confidence, being creative, hearing from you, sharing ways to style your home and wardrobe, working with dream brands, setting my own work schedule, being able to work at home to be there for the kids, shopping for upcoming projects and campaigns, and working with my team!
Q: Do you offer personal styling or courses?
A: I did take on “one on one” clients for wardrobe styling before & just after starting my blog. Currently between blogging full time, running my jewelry collection, kids activities, & future projects I’m unfortunately unable to offer that, But it’s something I’ll definitely keep in mind for the future.
Q: What is your least favorite thing about blogging?
A: Not being able to fully unplug and turn it off. Too much screen time.
Q: How big is your business team?
A: There are 6 of us (some are part time)
Q: Where did you go to college? What were you like?
A: SDSU San Diego State University. I was in a sorority and I loved being social, going out with friends, partying…but I seemed to (almost) always know my limit lol. Fun fact: my husband went to the same college and was in a fraternity (we overlapped 1 year, he’s older) but we didn’t meet each other until 1 year after I graduated college.
Q: What did you get your Degree in?
A: I have a bachelors in Interior Design. After college I worked in the model home industry then did residential & commercial design.
Q: How many children do you have? Boys or girls?
A: 1 Boy & 1 Girl. They are my everything! And they are growing so fast! But I do have to say that I feel like every year that goes by we get closer and closer and I love that! I’ve shared them minimally on social media for peace of mind. (There are a lot of crazy weirdos on there). I’ve also kept their names private since I started this account back in 2014 & I’ve been very happy with my decision to do so.
Q: What is your current favorite TV show?
A: Always & forever “The Office”. We rewatch it all the time.
Q: How did you reach 1 Million Followers?
A: Lots of work, dedication, posting good content & having some of my reels go viral.
Q: What is your proudest achievement?
A: Raising my 2 kids. I love them so much and our bond grows more and more each year. Another achievement I’m so proud of is my blog Stylin by Aylin. I’m so proud of what we created out of just a thought and dream in my head. I did hit one of my lowest dark points to get there though. You can read more about that here.
Q: What is the future project you mentioned in stories?
A: This involves other people outside of my immediate team so at this time I’m not able to share specifics. However it is something I’m extremely passionate about and have been working on for almost a year now! I’m so excited and can NOT wait to share this project with you!!!
Q: What’s your background/ethnicity.
A: Turkish. Both my parents were born in Turkey. Me & my 2 younger brothers were born in California.
Q: What’s something about blogging that most people don’t know?
A: It’s NOT easy…even though some parts may look like that online. There’s a lot of time, thought, planning, scheduling, creating, editing, reviewing, submitting, etc that goes on behind the scenes. It’s a 24-7 job that is hard to turn off.
Q: How much money can you make with blogging?
A: When I first started I had no idea that I could even make 1 penny. I went into this as a creative outlet and as a way to help others while being a full time SAHM. It wasn’t until about 2 1/2 years in that I started to see income. It started out very slow…but I was beyond grateful to have any money (at all) come in from doing something that I love! Fast forward years later and my husband was able to leave his corporate job in finance to work full time with me. Since then we’ve grown our team to 6 employees and we wouldn’t be where we are today without them! I also strongly believe that we wouldn’t be where we are today if my only intention was to make money. Personally there are way too many speed bumps, failures and challenges in this industry that I don’t think I would have kept going…if money was the only driving force.
Q: You mentioned your hubby quit his job…what does he do now?
A: He works full time with me! He is the head of operations, marketing, legal, HR, finance, analytics & business development. He’s also runs our StylinbyAylin jewelry collection. Basically the complete opposite of what I do…we’re a good team! I’m so grateful for him.
Q: What’s your favorite anti aging serum?
Q: What did you want to be when you were younger?
A: An archeologist and a paleontologist. I had a very large rock and dinosaur collection lol. After that faded I knew I wanted to be in a creative field either doing fashion or home interiors.
Q: Have you been to Turkey before?
A: Yes! But it’s been so many years. We still have lots of family that lives in Istanbul. Would love to go back soon and take my family.
Q: Do you speak Turkish?
A: Yes. I can understand about 90% but speak it very little. I have a terrible accent.
Q: How did you and your husband meet?
A: In a nightclub in downtown San Diego!
Q: Where are you dying to travel to?
A: SANTORINI GREECE !!
Q: How do you stay so fit? (Workout & Diet?)
A: I don’t follow any strict diet but I do believe in moderation and I think genetics has a part too. I rarely eat fast food…but I do have the occasional TACO BELL bean and cheese burrito or IN n out. I typically eat a scrambled egg or oatmeal for breakfast, avocado toast or chicken salad for lunch, and dinner is either a protein with rice, veggies, etc. These are also some dishes we keep on the rotation for dinner: roasted chicken, taco night, Thai takeout, sushi, chicken noodle soup with sourdough, grilled salmon, grilled steak or chicken with veggies & salad. For workouts I try to walk at-least 20 minutes a day. Yoga 3-4 week and the elliptical 3 times a week for about 20-30 min. To be honest I do NOT enjoy working out, and view it more as a chore than something enjoyable.
Q: Do you have have any botox, fillers or had plastic surgery?
A: No plastic surgery, or fillers (yet) But botox, Yes.
Q: What would you call your home decor style?
A: Neutral, with a mix of traditional & clean lined modern
Q: What is your favorite handbag?
A: This one! I’m guilty in owning it in a few colors.
Q: How do you deal with worries and anxiety?
A: I used to have pretty bad anxiety…Where I would get panic attacks and almost black out. At the time I thought it was more health related so I was very frightened. Once I knew it was a form of anxiety it gave me the control to make a change. I went to a therapist and did EMDR therapy. That changed my life for the better. I also began practicing gratitude, helping others was the best form of therapy because that is what I love to do and it helps you get out of your own head.
Q: Is there a quote or saying that’s made a huge impact on you?
A: “When we bring what is within us out into the world, miracles happen” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Q: Favorite Genre of music?
A: I like all types of music from Hip Hop to classical music
Q: Simple joys that make your heart happy?
A: When the kids and I play hide and seek with Luna, shopping with my daughter, watching the office with my Son…it’s our new tradition, having a cup of espresso, lighting a bougie candle, drinking a glass of wine by the fireplace
Q: What city do you live in?
A: San Diego, CA
Q: How tall are you?
A: I’m just shy of 5’7″.
Q: What Self tanner do you use?
A: This one linked here! Just be prepared…it will get you looking like you were laying out in Hawaii for ten days straight. Lol
